Introduction

You understand the interplay between cryogenics, vibrations, optics, magnetism, and Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) and can guide new ideas from the initial scientific concept all the way through to a robust customer system or series product? Then this position is perfect for you!
In this expert role, you will operate at the forefront of cryogenic technology, developing concepts for the next generation of scientific cryogenic microscopes.

We are looking for a recognized cryogenics expert with a proven track record in designing, building and operating advanced cryogenic microscopy systems, as well as the ability to translate novel scientific approaches into future product generations.

Your Responsibilities and Duties

  • Development and Evaluation of new concepts for cryogenic measurement setups, such as SPM and low-temperature systems ranging from 4 K down to the mK regime
  • Design, development and validation of novel cryogenic measurement systems while considering thermal, mechanical, and economic constraints
  • Analysis and optimization of vibration influences, thermal stability, and overall system performance in highly sensitive applications
  • Conducting feasibility studies, prototyping activities, and experimental verification of new concepts
  • Translating scientific ideas and technologies into robust, production-ready customer solutions and future product platforms
  • Supporting challenging customer projects and engaging in technical exchanges with scientific partners and research institutions
  • Collaborating closely with R&D, production, and application teams to successfully implement new technologies

Your Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Cryogenics, or a comparable scientific or technical discipline
  • Several years of practical experience in the design, operation, and further development of cryogenic measurement systems; ideally complemented by additional scientific research experience (e.g., Postdoctoral work)
  • Deep understanding of low-temperature physics, Scanning Probe Microscopy, and cryogenic platforms
  • Strong professional network within the academic community and up-to-date knowledge of current trends in low-temperature physics
  • Ideally, your profile is complemented by extensive expertise in vibration control, magnetism, cryocoolers, optics, or laser technology
  • Ability to translate scientific findings into robust technical concepts and product specifications
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues
